The Big Question!

Expecting below 0 wind chills and blowing and drifting snow tonight may cause a dilemma for the school board tomorrow. Do we cancel school or not? Seeing is how it's a small possibility, I wanted to ask you...Would you give up Homecoming day for a snow day?

I personally think that Homecoming is the reason we will not cancel, but at the same time...if Gahanna and Columbus City closes, then we have to. So what's your thoughts?

Playing Time for Athletes

As a coach, I deal with a lot of requests, sometimes demands, from parents for playing time for their son or daughter. I remember the days that I spent on the bench in football. I don't however remember my parents asking for playing time for me. Instead, I was told to work harder and earn a spot. And no matter how hard I worked, I was too small for the sport...and yet, no request! Instead, I found track and summer league baseball. Two sports in which I could excel. I tried other sports, but I was on the bench in every other one.

So why do parents do this? Does it help or hinder the athlete? As a coach, what would you do to get this across (keeping in mind that the parents have signed a paper stating time didn't matter and may not have shown up at the sports meeting before the season began)?

Public vs Christian School

I was wondering what you all think about which is better, public or Christian school educations? I guess there are pros and cons to any debate. I also admit that my opinion is skewed by being a Christian school teacher. So I want to know what you think.
Obviously I feel strongly about the biblical based learning, but lets venture outside of that (unless you feel that biblical based learning isn't important). What are the other issues that separate the two types of schools?

Snow Days

I am a teacher in the Columbus area. And we want a snow day! We didn't get so much as a five minute break from this last storm, let alone a day off or an early dismissal. I think our former governor has made all the schools gun shy this year. Well I say pull the trigger! We have 3 to burn and if we have to make any of them up at the end of the school year, we can plan a school wide dodge ball tournament and a pizza party. So let's go school board...let the days off fly, because in the end...it will bring us all closer together!

Jelly or Jam?

I was thinking as I was eating my PB&J earlier...I bet there is a a good sized debate over which "J" is better, Jelly or Jam. "If you have to choose -- jam or jelly? Both are made from fruit mixed with sugar and pectin. Pectin is found in the cell walls of most fruit, which when heated gives jam and jelly their thickness. In jelly, the fruit comes in the form of fruit juice. In jam, the fruit comes in the form of fruit pulp or crushed fruit." (salaswildthoughts.blogspot.com)

Statistics can show anything, so we won't rely on them. Here are my thoughts...
1. Jam is easier to spread than jelly.
2. No one likes to "Jelly", but everyone likes to "Jam!"
3. From the website http://strawberryplants.org - "For the nutritionally minded, however, jams contain many more beneficial nutrients and are preferred because of that fact."

Well...there you have it. I like Jam. Tell me which you like better!
